10 Blogger Struggles We All Experience

Have you ever heard anyone say ‘blogging seems so easy’? If you have, I imagine you wanted to slap them round the face and scream your frustration at them but instead you just kept your cool. Right? BUT THEY JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND THE BLOGGER STRUGGLES YOU SAY! Trust me, I hear ya loud and clear!

This post is dedicated to all the girls and guys working their arses off blogging every day/week/month whether it’s for work or pleasure. These are just a handful of the bumps in the road we face and not all are 100% serious so please do take what you’re about to read with a pinch of salt!

Running your own business

Right let’s get this one out of the way before I waffle on too much. Bloggers aren’t just bloggers. They’re basically superhumans who have the ability to be a photographer, author, editor, copywriter, graphic designer, social media manager, accountant, administrator and probably loads more job titles all at the same time. Now tell me that doesn’t sound tough! We are all essentially running our own businesses and building our personal brands whether you class blogging as a hobby or a full-time job. That’s why I think it is completely acceptable to have those days where you feel like breaking down in tears because everything’s got on top of you and your blog post just got wiped so you need to start again (we’ve all been there). We can do it gals and guys!

Taking photos in winter

Raise your hand if you’ve ever been victimized by the horrendous lighting during winter. *Raises both hands in the air* I just don’t know how some people do it, it’s an absolute mission! I can’t remember who it was but someone posted a photo they’d taken at 4.00 in the peak of winter and they must be a Goddess in human form or have insane editing skills because they managed to make it look like it had been taken on a summers day!

Getting lipstick on your duvet taking flatlays

God dammit I have done this so many times it’s unreal. Getting the perfect flatlay shot isn’t easy, especially when you’re beloved Russian Red lipstick rolls off Blogosphere Magazine and straight onto your brand new bedding – ACTUAL NIGHTMARE ALERT! It doesn’t always have to be a duvet though, I’ve got makeup on wrapping paper, books, clothes, makeup bags and just about anything really and no, it’s not always a walk in the park to get it out!

Blogger struggles

Balancing blogging and a full-time job

Round of applause to anyone who blogs AND has a full-time job. Bonus points to anyone who has a family to look after or businesses to run as well! We all deserve a bloody massive pat on the back (or a pint in my case because I’d love one right now) because sometimes the last thing we want to do when we get in from a long day is sit down and write countless blog posts, edit what feels like thousands of pictures and reply to all of those ‘exciting emails’ but we just crack on and do it don’t we! Don’t get me wrong, I really do enjoy it but when you’ve got a million things going on in all aspects of your life, it can be a teeny weeny bit stressful.

Getting ready super early so you can take photos of your outfit

One of my biggest blogger struggles is having to get ready an hour before I need to, just so I’ve got time to take some outfit snaps before I whizz out. Honestly, this is such a ball ache. Especially when you discover there isn’t actually anyone at home to take your photo and you just want to curl up into a ball in your brand new outfit which you picked especially for Instagram.

Having the perfect Instagram grid

Speaking of Instagram, why is it so fricken hard to have the ‘perfect’ grid? I’m actually going to talk about this more in an upcoming blog post but I really do think it’s hard enough for bloggers to maintain their own websites let alone social media as well. Themes, bots, follow/unfollowing and the ever-growing competition can be a bitch to cope with and it’s definitely something I have to constantly battle with!

Blogger struggles

Constantly comparing yourself

Maybe not everyone does this but I certainly have a habit of comparing myself to literally every other blogger or influencer (bleughhh hate that word) in the world. Whether it’s because I envy their blog design, new boots, choice of bedding or ability to go out for dinner every night, I always feel a sense of comparison when I scroll through my feed. I’m pretty sure I’m not the first and I won’t be the last to experience this inescapable feeling but sadly, I think it’s something becoming more common in this crazy industry we all collaborate in.

Rushing home in time for a Twitter chat

Okay so I’ve only done this once but it’s just too funny not to include. Back in the day when I was entirely focused on numbers (oh, how things have changed), I would genuinely sit at the pub with my mates on a Sunday night and join in the #BlogosphereChat and if I couldn’t hack the multi-tasking, I’d just drive home to continue on my laptop. Yes I know what a loser. PLEASE DON’T JUDGE!

Staying on trend

We’re bloggers not billionaires so I’m pretty damn sure we can’t all afford the latest trends, no matter how #goals they may be! Even though we all love to click on a post featuring the latest shoes everyone is lusting after, do many of us go out on a limb ourselves and invest in what’s current? I hold my hands up. I don’t! I genuinely find it tough to keep on top of trends, what everyone’s loving and hating and all that jazz either because I cannae afford it (yanno, saving for a mortgage and all) or it’s just not me (I’d die if I ever wore flares).

Forgetting to schedule tweets

I spoke about this in my blogging resolutions post a few months back but I really am so bad for this, especially since Buffer removed a load of functionality from their website *crying face*. I hope I’m not the only one! Does anyone else go through phases of being an absolute superstar at scheduling all your tweets and Facebook posts and then forgetting to do it for like three weeks? I’m trying to combat this by setting reminders every couple of days to reschedule my tweets as I point blank refuse to pay for Buffer premium so I just have to make do with 10 posts at a time.

I really hope some of you can relate to these epic battles we all face in the blogosphere whether that’s bawling because you’ve gone and got Koko K all over your brand new Oliver Bonas blanket or you’re just having a mental breakdown over your finances. Doesn’t matter which it is, we’ve all probably been through the same thing!

Are there any other blogger struggles you face?

Also big up to Shop Tobi for sending me this cute little denim skirt which you’re probably going to get sick of me wearing throughout summer. I was dubious about whether it was going to fit as I ordered a medium but it’s so comfortable, just the right length so I don’t flash my bum and washes really well (such an adult thing to say I know).

Agreed with all of these! Especially trends. I’m a book blogger and I can not afford all the popular book coming out soon one after the other which gets me to compare myself with others. I try not to let it get to me. I’m currently taking an indefinite hiatus so that I’ll be back to blogging with a fresh mind. Right now I’m just concentrating on not stressing over it.

    Great post!

I imagine that it’s so hard to keep up as a book blogger! That’s the most important thing not to stress! x

There are so many real struggles bloggers face. I’m one of those people who often wakes up an hour early just to fit in a photo shoot and I totally feel you. I have a tripod so I’m not dependent on anyone to take my pictures but some days the sunlight plays its tricks and it can put you in a real foul mood.
