Does My Lifestyle Hold My Instagram Back?

Whenever I scroll through Instagram, I see all my favourite bloggers’ snaps at cute coffee shops or in the most beautiful scenery. It seems like they’re always up to something whether that’s venturing off to somewhere new for a shoot or meeting a blogger pal for a drink and in comparison, my life seems boring af.

I go to work five days a week and when I’m not there, I’m at home or Toby’s house and a few nights a week I’ll go to the pub with my friends but that’s it. Realistically, I spend most of my week in womens’ grey sweatshirts (or mens for that matter), jeans and Converse and life just isn’t that magical or exciting.

I even tweeted about it a few months ago and received a crazy response (449 likes to be exact so I’m basically a social media superstar now) from people who either feel sorry for me (I hope not) or can relate to working a busy schedule and struggling to find the time to fit coffees and brunches into it. I’m so glad I’m not the only who feels like this because I was starting to think it was just me who feels like they’re boring and anti-social!

It might just be that I’m not keeping up with the rapid pace the blogging and social media world is evolving at so I feel out of touch and like my very average and normal life isn’t ‘blogger’ enough. Does anyone really want to see a picture of me posing in my garden or is that too 2012? Bloggers are up to some incredible things nowadays whether that’s staying in luxury hotels around the globe or attending a crazy product launch at the top of a skyscraper in London and it makes me feel like my content can’t keep up or compete with that. Why would someone choose to follow my Instagram when there are thousands of others out there with much more inspiring content (which probably isn’t taken on a tripod in their garden)?

Does My Lifestyle Hold My Instagram Back

Yes, I know you shouldn’t compare yourself but it’s natural isn’t it? And maybe it’s not always straight up comparing, sometimes it’s more like looking for inspiration and ways you can improve your own blog or social media.. Or am I just trying to justify me constantly comparing myself?!

I just feel like my life is way too boring for Instagram unless I’ve just been on holiday (I’m currently going through that period where I’ve got loads of holiday photos to post which makes me very happy) and maybe if I were to shoot my outfits on the streets of London or in a cute little coffee shop then my posts would see more engagement and maybe even followers. It’s just in reality, I struggle to do that. I live in Kent (GREEN EVERYWHERE – hence the Instagram theme); in a teeny village with not a lot of exciting places around and anywhere you do go, you have to drive; I rarely have the disposable income to go for a proper day out anywhere cause it ain’t cheap sunshine; don’t have anyone to shoot me (Toby works weekends); am not photogenic at all and get super embarrassed if a randomer sees me taking photos so it’s not the best concoction for Instagram perfection but I do try!

Please say I’m not the only one who feels like this! I don’t want to be one of those people who take social media too seriously but at the same time, I’d like to grow my channels and not let anything hold me back!

Do you ever feel like your lifestyle holds your Instagram or blog back?

Amen. You are not the only one. I don’t live in a pretty place or big city, just a small ugly town somewhere in Belgium where there’s nothing to photograph; and if I’m not at work, I’m bloody shopping for groceries or cleaning the house.
Keeping up appearances is so much work (and I’m too lazy)

honestly it’s been a few months I have been hating IG. It used to be my favourite social media, I loved digging around for new bloggers to follow because I love watching their content ( I am also a photographer so anything visual is up to me) but with that damn algorithm, lack of time, phone getting old as hell, well… I left IG for a while. I posted 1/2 a month which was nothing compared to my previous me!
And still I am not back on the boat again. I am slowly understanding and liking the stories feature but I have no longer that spark..
And I always ask myself how do bloggers now keep up with IG?
So I really enjoyed reading this post of yours!!

I actually feel like this regardless of living in London. I feel like I can’t keep up with the London bloggers sometimes. Everyone’s always off to the next new thing but I only get time to shoot during the weekends haha! Plus it’s so hard to find people to shoot with when you’re working full time! x

So true! Trying to find someone to take your photos, the time to do it and the funds to get there/eat isn’t easy! x

I completely agree! I’m new to the blogging world, but it seems like such a fun, creative outlet. But finding the time to write and to do things to write about…. there’s not enough hours in the day!
