When I think about how much money I’ve wasted over the years on my wardrobe, it sends a shiver down my spine. It’s an absolutely heinous amount! All those fads and trends which I’ve been sucked into and then dumped two weeks later. The insane amount of clothes I’ve bought on a whim, worn once then chucked into the charity pile. It’s not ethical or good for my bank account so it’s something I’ve been working on this year. That brings me to this post. Below are a handful of timeless pieces you need in your wardrobe which you’ll be able to wear again and again, without the need to throw it into the Depop drawer (does anyone else have one of those?)
I have a fair few white shirts in my wardrobe so I can’t really justify buying any more but they’re just so handy to have. For starters, they go with everything whether it’s jeans, a skirt or shorts but they’re also perfect for layering with dresses and jumpers. My favourite places for a decent ~ affordable ~ white shirt are Zara, Topshop or ASOS as mine have lasted me years!
If I was only allowed to wear one brand of shoes for the rest of my life, it would 100% be Converse. I practically wear them every day anyway so it wouldn’t be much of a difference anyway! They’re just so comfy, go with everything, come in a variety of styles and are pretty hard to go wrong with. I even wrote a post a few years back on reasons why you need to own a pair, albeit very brief and more like an Instagram caption that an actual blog post! I really do urge anyone to invest in a pair though, they are without a doubt my most loved and worn shoes!
Oh you can’t beat a classic watch can you? I’ve got a few in my collection and they’re such a staple accessory for me. I think it’s because I don’t wear much jewellery but I still like to have something on my wrist. Also, knowing the time is pretty useful isn’t it haha. At the moment I’ve been wearing my Adexe Grande Watch* to death because it’s so simple and doesn’t take all the attention away from my outfit. This isn’t sponsored or anything but if you’d like to snap up your own Adexe watch then you can use my 15% discount code, ‘RAWRDROBE15’ which is valid until 2nd September.
I didn’t actually get a denim skirt until this summer and I don’t know how I’ve lived without one for so long. It’s definitely been one of my most worn pieces throughout the warmer months and I know I’ll get just as much wear out of it in autumn and winter too. With a cami, jumper, bralette, bodysuit, t-shirt, heels, trainers, boots, belt or tights, it just works!
In all fairness, my blazers are probably my least worn items in my wardrobe but they’re just so damn timeless. I’ve had them all for years and every now and then I’ll just pop one on and it never seems to go out of fashion. I always get my blazers from Zara because they are just insanely good quality for the price and fit me really nicely.
I have the same reasoning behind why a leather skirt should be a wardrobe essential as a denim skirt. It’s just bloody convenient really isn’t it? You can wear it in any season with any top and any shoes. Basically, the lazy girl’s guide to looking stylish involves a leather skirt!
Although I’m not wearing my beloved Office Chelsea boots in these pictures, they are without a doubt my most worn shoes in the colder months. In fact, I’ve already worn out two pairs of them over the years so I’m onto my third! They’re such a worthwhile investment and I genuinely can’t think of anyone in my friendship group who don’t own a pair!
Black cross-body bag
Let’s be honest, black is probably the staple colour for most of us. Yanno ‘black is the colour of my soul’ and all that. So to match the majority of my wardrobe, I have my baby (which comes in the form of a Mulberry Lily bag) to throw on with every outfit possible. I wear it with anything from a casual shirt and jeans to more dressy occasions with an LBD and swipe of red lippy. It just goes with everything and I think it’s one of the most important staples in my wardrobe.
Every item I’ve mentioned is an absolute staple in my wardrobe and I couldn’t live without it (try reading that without me sounding like a materialistic twat). Obviously there are loads more but maybe I’ll save that for a part two? Let me know what you think!
